At Arden, we understand that the moving process can often be daunting and stressful, so we’ve listed some helpful tips to make your move as seamless and effortless as possible.

BEFORE THE MOVE:

  1. Arrange your affairs in advance.

Although seemingly small tasks, changing your address, setting up your telephone and internet connection and arranging final readings of your power meters are important jobs that will make moving into your new Arden home all the more effortless. Getting these out of the way early will leave you to focus solely on moving when the day approaches.

  1. Have a plan for pets and children.

Organise for family, a friend or babysitter to mind your children on the day of the move – this will help you to focus on the task at hand. As for pets, leaving them with a friend or at a kennel are viable options for keeping them safe and out of the way.

  1. Take photos of your cables.

Take photos of your electronics and cables before you pack them. This way, you won’t need to worry about remembering which cables plug into where when you move into your new home.

  1. De-construct any flat-pack furniture.

Help your removalists out by disassembling any flat pack items you may own. This will reduce the risk of it falling apart during the move and create more room to move other items. Keep any screws you may need to reassemble it in a labelled ziplocked bag.

  1. Create a separate first night tub.

Put all your essentials for the first night in your new home in a different coloured tub or box for easy identification. This tub may contain pyjamas, toiletries, chargers and anything else you may need.

DURING THE MOVE:

  1. Keep a packing tub on hand.

Create a tub or box with items that you will constantly be using through the packing and moving process. This can include scissors, packing tape, a ruler, coloured labels and markers.

  1. Colour-code everything.

Colour-code your packing boxes according to the room they belong in. This is helpful so that when you unpack, you know what goes where. Create a sheet with a legend, outlining which colour corresponds to which room.

  1. Label your boxes effectively.

Labelling your packing boxes on the side and the top will ensure that whether they are stacked or not, you will always be able to identify each box.

  1. Number your boxes.

This tip can be especially helpful if using a removal van to transport your belongings. This way, when you arrive at your new home you can make sure everything is accounted for.

  1. Keep your breakables safe.

Wrap your fragile items in clothes, towels, bubble wrap or cloths to ensure that they don’t break during the move. If you’d like to reduce plastic-usage and waste, using clothes and towels that you already own is a great idea.
