Why Arden

Ready for a seachange? Here’s why you should consider Geelong

31-03-2021

As a large number of Melbournians begin to reconsider their options and priorities after the year that was 2020, regional locations like Geelong and Torquay are becoming increasingly popular for their ability to combine the best of both worlds – the conveniences of city living and the serenity of a piece of the coast to call your own.

We’re in the process of building a brand new display home in Mount Duneed, and we thought we’d put together a little dossier on the area to help you weigh up your options, whether you’re seeking a full change of scenery or a new holiday home option to escape to each weekend.

Outdoor living

If you’d like to spend more time exploring the great outdoors, there’s no better place than Geelong and the Surf Coast. Alongside its famous beaches, the area is a hidden wonderland of cycling and hiking trails with gorgeous views and options to suit everybody, from novice to pro. The lifestyle here is less about fitting your lifestyle in around work, and more about making work fit your lifestyle.

Friendly people

The locals are about the most relaxed and friendly people you’ll meet here in Australia – and if you’re looking to make new friends, it has excellent options for sports clubs and activities for everyone from kids to retirees. Learn to surf, learn a new craft, the possibilities for leisure and making new friends is limitless.

Amenities

Geelong and suburbs like Torquay offer big-city convenience with a small town feel, with large supermarkets complemented by weekly farmers markets bursting with fresh produce. There’s a great selection of schools for families to choose from, with ample options from prep right through to University. The town features a burgeoning hospitality hub too, with a number of Melbourne-style cafes, bars and restaurants from which to select your favourite new local.

Public transport

Whilst a lot of our clients have made the move down to the coast either with new employment or with the freedom of working from home, we are finding a lot are still  commuting into Melbourne, albeit at a lower frequency. They’ve expressed that the nature of their lifestyle on the coast is less about the 9-5 work week, than before, and the switch to working from home at least part time has given them the flexibility to seek out the lifestyle they’ve always craved.

A V-line service runs daily right through to Melbourne, so our clients are finding that they can spend their time working or relaxing on the train, instead of stuck in Melbourne traffic. Some have even negotiated working commutes, meaning they’re spending less time in the city than ever before.
